Early Days

Shipp moved to Los Angeles at the age of 17 to pursue a career in acting and was discovered by a talent manager at age 14. Her first roles were in the 2009 film Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel followed by minor roles in the teen drama series House of Anubis (2013), and Drumline: A New Beat (2014). 

Finally, in 2014 she portrayed Aaliyah Haughton in the  Lifetime television film Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B. This is considered her breakthrough role.

Over the years Alexandra Shipp has starred in an episode of the TV series Switched at Birth (2011), Ray Donovan (2014), and Your Family or Mine (2015). 

She has also acted in the films Straight Outta Compton (2015), X-Men: Apocalypse (2016), Love, Simon (2018), Dark Phoenix (2019), All the Bright Places (2020), Kung Fury 2, Silk Road, Tick, Tick... Boom!, to name a few.
