Andrew Rannells is an actor, singer by profession, and American by nationality. The Grammy Award-winning Broadway actor is well known for starring in Hairspray, Hamilton, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Jersey Boys, The Prom, and The Boys in the Band.

Andrew Rannells’ birth took place on August 23, 1978, in Omaha, Nebraska, USA. He was born Andrew Scott Rannells to his mother Charlotte Rannells and his father Ronald Rannells. He is not the only child of his parents and has four siblings, an older brother, and three sisters.

For education Andrew Rannells attended Creighton Preparatory School, graduating in 1997. He then moved to New York City where he studied theater at Marymount Manhattan College for two years before dropping out to audition for roles full-time.

Early Days

Before Rannells won his first Broadway role, his first role was in Pokémon Live! (2000-2001) as James. He also voiced characters in a number of video games while he worked with 4Kids Entertainment between 2001 and 2004. 

He then went on to play roles in a number of regional theater productions such as Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Miss Saigon, and Thoroughly Modern Millie.

On TV series he has had recurring roles in How I Met Your Mother (2013-2014), The Knick (2015), Another Period (2016), Black Monday (2019), and guest appearances in Will & Grace (2017), Live from Lincoln Center: Stars in Concert (2018), etc. Moreover, Rannells has been credited in the films The Intern (2015), The Stand-In (2020), The Boys in the Band (2020), The Prom (2020), etc.
