Who is Angelica Ross?

Angelica Ross is an actress, and businesswoman by profession, and American by nationality. She is a transgender rights advocate, founder, and CEO of TransTech Social Enterprises and a star of the web series Her Story and the FX series Pose.

Angelica Ross – Bio, Age, Parents, Siblings

Angelica Ross was born on November 28, 1980, in Kenosha, Wisconsin, and was raised in Racine, Wisconsin. She was born a male by gender and was given a male birth name by her mother and father.

After graduating high school at the age of 17, she enrolled at the University of Wisconsin but dropped out after only a semester. Years later she studied Cosmetology, Hair & Makeup at the Hollywood Institute of Beauty.

Angelica Ross – Early struggle, Transition

Growing up Angelica Ross always knew she was different. She sang in a church choir, played piano, and acted in local theater. By eighth grade, she was bullied for being “too feminine.” 

In 1998, at the age of 17, she came out as gay to her parents. Her parents sent her to their who told me he’d pray for her and later to a therapist, who told her mother that she was gay and “no amount of prayer could change that.” Lost, confused, and lonely Angelica Ross tried to take her own life and swallowed a handful of pills. She did survive the suicide attempt.

After graduating from high school a year early she enrolled at the University of Wisconsin but dropped out after a semester. She then joined the U.S. Navy in order to qualify for the G.I. Bill. While being stationed in Yokosuka, Kanagawa, Japan, Ross was harassed and coerced into saying she was gay. She was “uncharacterized” for discharge, which left her without benefits or access to the GI bill.

After Angelica Ross moved back to the USA, at the age of 19, she met a drag queen called Traci Ross, who helped her begin her gender transition. But when her parents came to know about her transitioning, Angelica Ross was thrown out.

Angelica Ross – Boyfriend, Engagement, Husband

Ross was in a relationship with her longtime boyfriend. She was even engaged to be married and was looking forward to starting a new life with her soon-to-be husband. But their engagement ended as her fiancé did not want others to know that Ross was transgender.

In March 2020 it was reported that Ross discovered that her new boyfriend actually was engaged to another woman.

Angelica Ross – Career

Early Career

Ross then moved in with her biological father in Roanoke, Virginia. There she worked as a waitress but was let go due to discrimination. She then moved to Hollywood, Florida where she worked as an escort until 2003. Meanwhile, Angelica Ross learned to code by herself, earned her diploma in Cosmetology, Hair & Makeup, and took acting classes.

She then began a web development and graphic design business and moved to Chicago to become the employment coordinator for the Trans Life Center. In 2014 Angelica Ross launched TransTech Social Enterprises, a nonprofit creative design firm that trains, and contracts transgender and other workers. 

Series, Shows

In 2016 she began acting in the web series Her Story, which was nominated for an Emmy Award for Outstanding Short Form Comedy or Drama. In 2018 she was cast as Candy Abundance in the FX series Pose.

She has also had appearances in I Am Cait (2015), Danger & Eggs (2017), Claws (2017), Transparent (2017), etc.
