Carter Oosterhouse is a model, TV show host, carpenter by profession, and American by nationality. He is best known for his work in the TLC series Trading Spaces and HGTV shows Carter Can, Red Hot & Green, and Million Dollar Rooms.

Carter Oosterhouse was born on September 19, 1976, in Traverse City, Michigan, USA. His birth name is Carter Nicholas Oosterhouse and was born to his mother Mary Oosterhouse and his father Roland Oosterhouse. His parents raised him alongside his three siblings- brothers Todd Oosterhouse, Tyler Oosterhouse, and sister Sienna Penick. Both his brothers are also carpenters.

For education, Carter Oosterhouse attended Grand Traverse Area Catholic Schools. Following graduation, he went on to study at Central Michigan University on a rugby scholarship. He earned a B.A. in nutrition and communication there.

His ethnicity is Mexican-American, and his mother is Mexican.

Carter Oosterhouse – Girlfriend, Wife, Children, Divorce

Carter Oosterhouse dated actress Amy Smart for a couple of years before marrying her on September 10, 2011, in Traverse City, Michigan. With his wife, he has a daughter- Flora Oosterhouse, born via surrogate on December 26, 2016.

Currently, there are no rumors of divorce surrounding the pair.

Early Days

After college, Oosterhouse relocated to Los Angeles to pursue a career in the entertainment industry- film and television. There he worked as a production assistant and tape coordinator for Project Greenlight behind the scenes.

He eventually went on to work in TLC’s Trading Spaces, joining the show in its fourth season. The same year, in 2003, TLC added the spin-offs Trading Spaces: Family and Trading Spaces: Boys V. Girls which provided Carter Oosterhouse the opportunity to work with children.

In 2004 Oosterhouse appeared in an episode of CBS Sunday Morning in New York and in 2005 was a contributor to NBC's show Three Wishes. He has also been featured in TV programs such as Rachael Ray, The Today Show, The CBS Early Show, The Oprah Winfrey Show, The View, CNN, Entertainment Tonight, and Extra. 

Moreover, he began two new shows Carter Can and The Inside Job on HGTV in the fall of 2007. He worked with Nicole Facciuto on HGTV network’s Red Hot & Green in early 2008 and hosted the same network’s Million Dollar Rooms show in 2012. Carter Oosterhouse began hosting the ABC reality show The Great Christmas Light Fight with co-host Taniya Nayak in 2015.

Aside from TV work, he has also worked as a model- working for Nivea, Lincoln, Hewlett Packard, and Miller Light. In addition, Carter Oosterhouse has had TV appearances for Bud Light, Lake Michigan Credit Union, and Nivea, among others.

Oosterhouse has also been featured in publications including US Weekly, OK Weekly, USA Today, the Los Angeles Times, Chicago Tribune, Redbook, and Good Housekeeping, to name a few.

The TV personality has done charity work as well- establishing Carter's Kids. The non-profit organization is “dedicated to creating and promoting awareness of fitness and self-esteem for America's youth.”

In December 2017 Oosterhouse was publicly accused of forcing his Trading Spaces staff to perform unwanted sex acts. He, however, claimed their relationship was consensual.
