Chad Hurley – Age, Parents, Siblings

Chad Hurley was born on January 24, 1977, as Chad Meredith Hurley. His birthplace is Reading, Pennsylvania, U.S.A. His father’s name is Don Hurley and his mother’s name is Joann Hurley.

He is not the only child of his parents and has two siblings - a younger brother named Brent Hurley and an older sister named Heather Hurley. 

They were all raised in Birdsboro, Pennsylvania. Speaking of his childhood curiosity, he recalled, “I was one of those kids who took apart their toys to see how they work, just to see what they were made up of.”

Since his childhood, Chad Hurley was attentive to computers and electronics, an interest that later developed into a passion.

Education, Ethnicity

While at Twin Valley High School, Chad Hurley won two of its PIAA State titles in 1992 and 1994. He graduated from Twin Valley High School in 1995. Chad Hurley then enrolled in the Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He graduated from the same in 1999 with a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts.

His ethnicity includes English and German.

Chad Hurley – Girlfriend, Wife, Children, Divorce, Affair

There are not many facts available about Chad Hurley's former flames, partners, and girlfriends. He married his longtime girlfriend Kathy Clark. By his marriage, he was the son-in-law of James H. Clark, a Silicon Valley tech mogul.

The couple married in 2000 and has two children. They have chosen to live a low-key life, keeping their personal life private. He and his ex-wife divorced in 2012 but it remains unknown if divorce was due to any affairs.

Hurley is currently believed to be single.

Chad Hurley – Career

Early Career

At the initial of his career, Chad Hurley worked at eBay's PayPal division. He was also a team member who developed the original PayPal logo. With a creative idea, Chad Hurley along with his colleagues Steve Chen and Jawed Karim developed YouTube.

The ideas for YouTube were developed in early 2005. They had difficulty sharing videos that had been shot at a dinner party at Chen's apartment in San Francisco. However, Karim has denied that it had happened. Instead, he shared that the idea came with Janet Jackson’s breast incident!

During the 2004 Super Bowl performance, Jackson’s breasts were exposed, and later the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami occurred. Karim had difficulty finding both video clips online, which led to the idea of a video-sharing platform- YouTube.

The trio worked together and finally launched YouTube on February 14, 2005. Without any pay, the team of 10 members worked, fully dedicated to the cause. After a successful year, they sold YouTube to Google Inc. for $1.65 billion and Hurley's share was $345.6M on Google's February 7, 2007. But he stayed on YouTube as a CEO until  October 2010. However, he stated he would stay on as an advisor. Salar Kamangar succeeded Chad Hurley.

They then went on to launch MixBit which does video editing using smartphones, similar to Vine, Instagram, and Vyclone. The app can record clips for a maximum of 16 seconds. MixBit has now been renamed Zeen and is now owned by BlueJeans in August 2018.

Other interests

Besides being interested in art during childhood, Chad Hurley is passionate about racing. In 2009, Hurley invested in a new Formula 1 team, Team US F1. Unfortunately, the team could not make it into the 2010 season. They unofficially shut down and the reasons were never made public.

In 1994, he founded a clothing brand with Anthony Mazzei named Hlaska.
