Who is David Oyelowo?

David Oyelowo is an actor, producer by profession, and British, American by nationality. He is best known for starring in Selma, A United Kingdom, Queen of Katwe, Spooks, Jack Reacher, etc.

David Oyelowo – Age, Parents, Siblings

David Oyelowo’s birth took place on 1 April 1976 in Oxford, Oxfordshire, England. He was born David Oyetokunbo Oyelowo to his Nigerian father Stephen Oyelowo while the identity of his late Nigerian mother is not known. 

He is not the only child of his parents and his siblings. Although he revealed that he has brothers in June 2015 interview with The Guardian, he is yet to share the names of his siblings.

After living in south London until the age of 6, the family moved to Lagos, Nigeria where he attended "'military-style' boarding school."

Education, Ethnicity

For further education David Oyelowo attended City and Islington College, studying theatre studies. He studied acting at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) for a year and eventually completed his three-year course in 1998.

His ethnicity is Nigerian.

David Oyelowo married his longtime girlfriend Jessica Oyelowo, also an actress on 5 September 1998. He and his wife have four children together- oldest son Asher Oyelowo (born Oct 10, 2001), followed by son Caleb Oyelowo (born 2005), son Penuel Oyelowo (born 2009) and daughter Zoe Oyelowo (born 2012).

After more than 21 years of marriage, the couple is still very much in love and is in a blissful marriage without rumors of extra-marital affairs or divorce.

Early Days

Since beginning his career as an actor, David Oyelowo started in theatre. He has played in the stage productions of Volpone, Antony and Cleopatra (1999), This England: The Histories (2001), Prometheus Bound (2005), and Othello (2016), among others.

Following his transition to films, Oyelowo landed minor roles in Maisie Raine (1998) and starred in Spooks (2002-2004) which gained him some recognition.

He has also had guest appearances in the TV series Star Wars Rebels (2014-2018), Robot Chicken (2014), The Lion Guard (2017-2019), Les Misérables (2018), etc.
