Demetria McKinney is an actress, singer, and reality TV star by profession and American by nationality. She is well known for starring in Tyler Perry's House of Payne, The Rickey Smiley Show, Saints & Sinners, and Superstition.

Demetria McKinney’s birth took place on August 27, 1978, in Natchitoches, Louisiana, USA. She was born as Demetria Dyan McKinney to a father who served in the U.S. army while the identity of her mother is not shared with the public. 

She is not the only child of her parents and has 8 siblings, among which is the second oldest.

Early Days

McKinney started her professional career as an actress in 2000. After a couple of years in the acting business, she was credited in the 2004 film Tyler Perry’s Meet The Browns and Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married? (2006). 

And in 2006 Demetria McKinney was cast in the TV series Tyler Perry's House of Payne as Janine Shelton–Payne. She portrayed the main character until 2012, for a total of 153 episodes. As a singer, she released her debut EP Officially Yours on October 6, 2017, which peaked at #48 on the US Indie charts.

Since her breakthrough role, Demetria McKinney had had appearances in Let's Stay Together (2014), Mann & Wife (2015), Chicago Med (2016), Being Mary Jane (2017), and The Real Housewives of Atlanta. 

She worked as a series regular in The Rickey Smiley Show (2012-2014), Saints & Sinners (2016-present), Superstition (2017-present), Motherland: Fort Salem, and has a recurring role in The Quad (2017-2018), Tyler Perry’s The Paynes (2018-2019).
