DeWanda Wise is an actress by profession and American by nationality. She is best known for starring in the TV series She's Gotta Have It as Nola Darling and in the film Jurassic World Dominion as Kayla Watts.

DeWanda Wise was born on May 30, 1984, in Jessup, Maryland, USA. Her birth name is DeWanda Jackson. Her mother’s name is Margie Wise and her father’s name is John Jackson. She is not the only child of her parents and has a sibling- a brother named Dwayne Wise.

For education, DeWanda Wise attended Atholton High School. While a student there she took AP Psychology thinking she wanted to become a therapist. However, she realized this was not the career path for her. In her sophomore year, she began acting after her high school theatre director cast her in production in lieu of detention.

She went on to enroll at  New York University's Tisch School of the Arts from where he graduated with honors with a dual bachelor degree's in Drama and Metropolitan Social and Cultural Analysis. There she met  Gina Rodriguez, who is also now a famous actress.

DeWanda Wise married her longtime boyfriend Alano Miller on 26 June 2009 after years of dating. She and her husband do not have children yet. Also, there are no rumors of divorce surrounding the pair.

Early Days

Wise began her career as an actress in the mid-2000s. In the year 2006, she landed roles in the short films Super Powers and Who's Calling. This was followed by minor roles in the films Spinning Into Butter (2007), Steam (2007), Smoking Nonsmoking (2011), Knucklehead (2015), and How to Tell You're a Douchebag (2016), among others. 

Moreover, she has portrayed characters, mostly as a guest star, in the TV series Law & Order: Criminal Intent (2007), One Life to Live (2008), The Unusuals (2009), The Good Wife (2011), Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (2022), Tokens the Series (2011), Boardwalk Empire (2011), The Mentalist (2014), etc.

Finally DeWanda Wise landed the recurring role of Clara in the TV series Underground (2017) which let her eventually land more recurring TV roles.
