He is not the only child of his parents and has four siblings- older brother Cian Murtagh, Dara Murtagh, and older sisters Aisling Murtagh, Triona Murtagh, and Michelle Murtagh.

Early Days

After graduating from college, he went on to work in theaters such as the Abbey Theatre. He eventually made his debut in an episode of the TV series Ros na Rún in the year 2007.

This was followed by appearances in episodes of the TV series Seacht (2008), The Roaring Twenties (2008), The Clinic (2008-2009), Camelot (2011), Rásaí na Gaillimhe (2009-2012), among others. Finally, in 2013, he was cast as Leif in six episodes of the TV series Vikings, which is considered his breakthrough role.
