Meanwhile, the school’s winter activity requirement landed him in theatre. He was immediately cast as Creon in the student production of Antigone. During the mid-pandemic era, Sessa was in a school radio play of Frankenstein.

In the autumn of 2021, Dominic Sessa was starring in a school production of Neil Simon’s Rumors when his drama teacher asked him to audition for Hollywood casting director Susan Shopmaker.
Shopmaker was scouting Deerfield Academy as a potential filming location. Among twelve students who auditioned for the role, Dominic Sessa underwent about eight auditions and landed the lead role of Angus Tully for the film The Holdovers. The coming-of-age film, which was released in 2023, is both his debut and breakthrough film.
While filming The Holdovers, Sessa applied to drama schools. He was accepted at Carnegie Mellon School of Drama.
