Who is Ella Mai?

Ella Mai is a singer and songwriter by profession and British by nationality. She is best known for her debut album Ella Mai and EPs Time, Change, and Ready.

Ella Mai’s birth took place on 3 November 1994 in London, England. She was born Ella Mai Howell to a Jamaican mother and an Irish-Irish father. She was named after American jazz singer Ella Fitzgerald by her mother who is an American jazz music lover.

At the age of 12, Ella Mai moved to New York City where he attended Queens High School of Teaching. After graduating from there, she returned to England and in 2014 joined the British and Irish Modern Music Institute London (BIMM London). She has not spoken of her childhood days, parents, or siblings.

Her ethnicity includes Jamaican and Irish.

Ella Mai – Career

Before fame

While still a student at the British and Irish Modern Music Institute London (BIMM London), she competed in season 11 of The X Factor. Back then she entered the competition as a trio, Arize. But the group did not make it beyond the initial audition for the judges. Soon after the band broke up.

Not disheartened, Ella Mai Mai uploaded a four-track solo EP titled Trouble on SoundCloud. It was produced by her high school friend, DJ Kam 1. After she was discovered on Instagram, Mai was signed into DJ Mustard's labels, 10 Summers Records, and Interscope Records.

Worked in

Mai in February 2016 released her first EP titled Time followed by Change in November 2016 and Ready in February 2017.

Her single Boo'd Up peaked at number five on the US Billboard Hot 100 and also broke the record for the most weeks at No. 1 of any song by a woman on the R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart. After the success of her single Trip, which was released on 3 August 2018, she went on to release her debut album, Ella Mai.

Moreover, she has toured with SweetSexySavage World Tour and the 24K Magic World Tour. Her debut tour began in January 2019.
