Essie Davis is an actress by profession and Australian by nationality. She is best known for her roles in Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries, The Babadook, Game of Thrones, and The White Princess.

Essie Davis’ birth took place on 7 January 1970 in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia as Esther Davis. She is the daughter of George Davis, a local artist, and Mary Davis. She is not the only child of her parents and has six other siblings.

Davis was educated at Clarence High School and attended Rosny College after graduating high school. She also enrolled at the University of Tasmania and the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) in Sydney. She graduated from the latter with a degree in Performing Arts (Acting) in 1992.

Essie Davis is a happily married woman. She dated Australian director and screenwriter Justin Kurzel for seven years and got married to him in 2002.

She shares two children with her husband- twin daughters Stella Kurzel and Ruby Kurzel, born in 2006. The couple seems to be happy with their marriage as there are no rumors of divorce or extramarital affairs.

Before fame

At the University of Tasmania, Essie Davis was a member of the Old Nick Company. Her professional career began in 1993 with Bell Shakespeare’s production of Romeo and Juliet. This was followed by performances in  Hamlet, Richard III, Macbeth, and The Taming of the Shrew.

Her film career began in 1995 with the film Dad and Dave: On Our Selection followed by hit movies The Matrix Reloaded, The Matrix Revolutions, The Sound of One Hand Clapping, and Girl with a Pearl Earring.

Davis has also worked in films including Charlotte's Web (2006), Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole (2010), Assassin's Creed (2016) while True History of the Kelly Gang and Miss Fisher & the Crypt of Tears are under production.

In TV series, Essie Davis has acted in Water Rats (1997), The Slap (2011), Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries (2012-2015), as Lady Crane in Game of Thrones (2016), The White Princess (2017), The Last Post (2017).
