Who is Evangeline Lilly?

Evangeline Lilly is a successful Hollywood actress who did not dream of becoming an actress. A student with strong academics, she worked odd jobs including acting to put herself through college. Although Lilly now loves acting, she has always been a storyteller.

Evangeline Lilly was born on August 3, 1979, in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, Canada. Her birth name/full name is Nicole Evangeline Lilly. She was raised along with her two siblings- an older sister and a younger sister, Andrea Lilly by her parents. 

Her mother used to work as a cosmetician, middle school secretary, and ran a daycare while her father Paul Lilly used to work as a home economics teacher in Canada.

Evangeline Lilly graduated from W. J. Mouat Secondary School. While in school she was an active student who played soccer and also was Vice-president of the student council. Evangeline Lilly then went on to enroll at the University of British Columbia. Her major was in International Relations. To pay her tuition fees, Lilly did several odd jobs like waitressing, mechanical work, and flight attendant.

Her ethnicity includes English and Irish.

Evangeline Lilly – Boyfriend, Husband, Children, Divorce

Evangeline Lilly was in a relationship with Canadian ice hockey player Murray Hone. After dating, she married her boyfriend in 2003. But the marriage did not last and they divorced in 2004. Did either of them have an extra-marital affair? The reason for the divorce was not publicized. She and her ex-husband did not have any children together.

Lilly then went on to date Dominic Monaghan, her Lost co-star from 2004 to 2009. Even after dating for around 5 years, the former couple never married. 

Evangeline Lilly got into a romantic relationship with Norman Kali in 2010 and has been together ever since. On May 23, 2011, she gave birth to the couple’s first child together. The baby boy was named Kahekili Kali. Their second child, also a son, was born on 30 October 2015.

Evangeline Lilly – Career

Early days

Evangeline Lilly initially did not have an interest in acting. She was actually discovered by the Ford Modeling Agency agent while she was walking the streets of Kelowna, British Columbia. She did take the agent’s business card but did not immediately pursue acting. 

Eventually, she called the agency and signed up with Ford to help pay her tuition fee. Soon she landed roles in several commercials and some minor roles in TV shows such as Smallville and Kingdom Hospital.

Lilly’s breakthrough role came with ABC’s series Lost. She was chosen among 75 women to portray the role of Kate Austen in the series which ran a total of six seasons from 2004 to 2010.

Films, Series

She went on to star in the Academy Award-winning films The Hurt Locker (2008), Afterwards (2008), The Long Weekend (2005), etc. After a brief hiatus she had taken to focus on her writing and motherhood, Lilly returned to the big screen in 2011 with the movie Real Steel. In 2012, she was cast in The Hobbit, and The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies in 2014. 

This was followed by her role as Hope van Dyne/Wasp in Marvel’s Ant-Man (2015), Little Evil (2017), and Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018). She is now set to play her character in Marvel’s Avengers: Endgame (2019) and The Mitchells vs. The Machines (2020).

On the set of Lost, Lilly worked with Jorge Garcia, Emilie de Ravin, Daniel Dae Kim, Naveen Andrews, and Yunjin Kim.

As a writer

Lilly is not only an actress but also a writer. Her children's book titled The Squickerwonkers was published on July 18, 2013. She also has revealed that her future books will follow the characters of The Squickerwonkers.
