Gerry Dee’s birth took place on December 31, 1968, in Scarborough, Ontario, Canada. She was born Gerard Francis-John Donoghue to her Scottish mother and father who worked as bus drivers and were immigrants.
He is not the only child of his parents and has a sibling- a brother named Kevin Donoghue. His ethnicity is Scottish.

For education, he attended De La Salle College, a Catholic high school in Toronto. After graduation, he went on to study kinesiology, and athletic therapy at York University and education at St. Francis Xavier University, where he also played varsity hockey. He graduated from York in 1992 with a Bachelor's degree in arts.

Gerry Dee married his longtime girlfriend Heather Donoghue, a teacher on August 5, 2006. With his wife, he has three children- daughters Ali Donoghue (born 2007), Faith Donoghue (born February 2010), and son Breton Donoghue (born November 2012).
Both of his daughters play golf while Ali is a competitive golfer. As of 2020, the couple is living a blissful life without a rumor of extra-marital affairs and divorce.

Early Career
After completing his education, Dee worked as a hickey coach and physical education teacher for 10 years in his old high school. He then quit his job to pursue a career in comedy.
Gerry Dee had found national fame before moving on to the international arena, having won Toronto's Funniest New Comic competition in 1999. He had his own comedy special on The Comedy Network and performed at the Montreal Just for Laughs International Comedy Festival.
He portrayed the character, Donny, in the 2006 film Trailer Park Boys: The Movie, Canada Russia '72 (2006) as Boston Bruins player Wayne Cashman, and his comedy segment aired on Just For Laughs.
Moreover, Gerry Dee has been featured in television commercials and performed in numerous comedy clubs such as Just For Laughs and Yuk Yuks.
International fame
Dee competed in the second and fourth seasons of Last Comic Standing but did not reach the finals. In season 5 of the competition and finished in third place. He also has won the prestigious San Francisco Comedy Competition, making him the first Canadian to do so.
Gerry Dee then went on to host his own segment on the Canadian cable channel The Score and appeared in commercials for Rogers, Wisers, KFC, and Nissan.
In January 2012, he created, wrote, and starred in his sitcom Mr. D, which also featured his three children. And on July 8, 2019, it was announced that he would host Family Feud Canada. In addition, as an author, he published a book titled Teaching: It's Harder Than It Looks, which is based on his ten years as a teacher.
