Early Days
Chen began his career at the age of 5 after he booked his first national commercial. Since then he has been found steady work in commercials, print, etc. He made his debut screen appearance in a 2013 episode of the TV series Modern Family which remained uncredited. This was followed by appearances in the TV series Grey's Anatomy (2014) as Luca Peterson.
Finally, in 2015, Ian Chen starred as Evan Huang in the TV series Fresh Off the Boat. He portrayed the character for a total of 116 episodes, until 2020, and is considered his breakthrough role in Hollywood.

Since then Chen has starred in the films Shazam! (2019), A Dog's Journey (2019), Wish Dragon (2021), Shazam! Fury of the Gods (2023), etc. Moreover, he has also had guest appearances in the episodes of the TV series Dr. Ken (2016), Loosely Exactly Nicole (2016), and the 2018 reality TV show Paradise Run.
Ian Chen has also lent his voice to animated TV shows Family Guy (2017), Fancy Nancy (2018-2022), The Rocketeer (2019-2020), and Yasuke (2021), among others.
