Jaina Lee Ortiz is an actress and dancer. The American is well known for her role as Detective Annalise Villa on the Fox police drama Rosewood and in the ABC drama series Station 19 as Lt. Andrea "Andy" Herrera.

Born on November 20, 1986, on Fort Ord military base in Fort Ord National Monument, California, USA. Jaina Lee Ortiz was raised in The Bronx, New York. Her birth name is Jessica Ortiz. Her father Joe Ortiz, a retired NYPD first-grade detective, and her mother, Daisey Acevedo (who passed away in 2018) divorced when she was seven years old.
She also has a sibling, an adopted sister named Ash. Her parents had adopted Ash at the age of 6.

Jaina Lee Ortiz was only nine years old when she began to train in the art of dance by taking salsa/mambo classes. She was already teaching dance at the age of 15. In the next year, she traveled as a professional dance instructor and performer internationally.
Ortiz first got into acting by appearing in student films. After completing her education at Maggie Flanigan Studios, she began to audition for roles. She had worked as a make-up artist for MAC Cosmetics while a student. In 2009 she competed in the second season of VH1’s reality show Scream Queens. The competitors would compete in acting-based challenges and the winner was promised a role in an upcoming movie. The reality show premiered in August 2010 and Jaina Lee Ortiz came as the first runner-up.

Following minor roles in the film Misfire (2012), the short film Laid Out (2013), and 6 episodes of the TV series The Shop (2012), Jaina Lee Ortiz landed the role of Officer Marly Muñoz in the short-lived 2014 series The After. Her breakthrough came as the main character Detective Annalise Villa in the Fox police drama Rosewood. She portrayed the character for a total of 44 episodes, until 2017.
Since then Ortiz has starred in the film Girls Trip (2017), and recurring roles in the TV series Shooter (2017), and Grey's Anatomy (2018-2019). Currently, she is playing the lead role of Lt. Andrea "Andy" Herrera in the ABC drama series Station 19 since 2018.
