McDorman began his career in 1999. After a series of minor roles, he made his TV debut in 2 episodes of the sitcom Run of the House (2003) as Scott Banks. He was a series regular in Quintuplets (2004-2005) followed by guest appearances in the TV series House (2006), CSI: Miami (2006), Cold Case (2007), and Greek (2007-2011).

Finally, in the year 2011, Jake McDorman was cast in Limitless as Brian Finch, which is his breakthrough role.
