Before starting his career as an actor, McKinnon worked at Sutton Place Hotel. Although he began his life as an actor in the year 2000, his first work was dubbing the voice of Alexeyev in a 1999 episode of the TV series Master Keaton.

Jason McKinnon’s debut screen role was in the 2002 film Halloween: Resurrection, which remained uncredited.
