Jeffrey Donovan’s birth took place on May 11, 1968, in Amesbury, Massachusetts, USA. His birth name is Jeffrey Thomas Donovan. He was raised by his single mother Nancy Matthews with his two siblings- brothers Sean Donovan, and Michael Donovan. There is no information shared on his father or what his parents did for a living.
Speaking to Miami.com, Donovan shared details of his childhood,
“I grew up really poor. We grew up on welfare – a single mom with three boys. We didn't have anything. Christmas would come around, she'd rewrap gifts she'd given us before. We moved about 10 times in my childhood. When you come home from school and the lights don't go on, you think: we're moving! You can't pay electric bills on welfare. We became very frugal.”

Jeffrey Donovan was educated at Amesbury High School where his teacher, Patricia Hoyt, helped him start a drama club. She further helped him to get a private scholarship to participate in a summer program. He studied for a while at Bridgewater State College before transferring to the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He graduated from the same with a Bachelor of Arts in drama.
Working his way through, Donovan attended New York University's Graduate Acting Program at the Tisch School of the Arts and earned his Master of Fine Arts.

Jeffrey Donovan married his girlfriend Michelle Woods on August 25, 2012, after a year of dating. Their first child- daughter Claire Donovan was born in December 2012. He and his wife welcomed son Lucas Donovan in 2014 and another daughter in 2017.
Currently, the couple seems to be happy in their marriage and is busy raising their three kids. There are also no rumors of divorce or adulterous affairs.

Early days
While a college student Jeffrey Donovan worked as a commercial bus driver at UMass Transit Service. His debut TV role was in a 1995 episode of Homicide: Life on the Street. This was followed by appearances in the TV series Law & Order (1995, 2007), The Pretender (1997-1998), The Beat (2000), Touching Evil (2004), CSI: Miami (2005), and Crossing Jordan (2007).
His portrayal of Michael Westen in USA Network’s Burn Notice from 2007 to 2013 is his breakthrough role. Donovan played the character, which was the main role, for a total of 111 episodes.

Over the last decade, Jeffrey Donovan has portrayed characters in the TV series Fargo (2015), Shut Eye (2016-2017), Invincible (2021), etc. Moreover, he has starred in the films Changeling (2008), J. Edgar (2011), LBJ (2016) as John F. Kennedy, Honest Thief (2020), Wrath of Man (2021), and Surrounded, to name a few.
He also voiced Steve Trevor in Wonder Woman: Bloodlines (2019). Jeffrey Donovan is a dedicated philanthropist as well and has worked with Life Rolls On (LRO), among others.
