He went on to work in stage production Almeida Theatre’s The Last Days of Judas Iscariot (2008) as Bailiff / Simon the Zealot, Soho Theatre’s Piranha Heights (2008) as Medic, Donmar Warehouse’s and Broadway Broadhurst Theatre’s Hamlet (2009) as Rosencrantz, Royal Exchange, Manchester’s Macbeth (2009) as Malcolm, Trafalgar Studios’ The Homecoming (2015) as Joey, Young Vic’s Yerma (2016, 2017) as Victor, Shoreditch Town Hall’s Killer (2017) a one-man play.

Films, Series

Macmillan made his screen debut in two episodes of the TV series Hustle (2009) as Harry Fielding. This was followed by guest roles in the films Heartless (2009), The Dark Knight Rises (2012), World War Z (2013), Maleficent (2014), Fury (2013), Carnage (2017), King Lear (2018), The Dig (2021), Seize Them!, among others.
