Who is Joseph Mawle?
Joseph Mawle is an actress by profession and British by nationality. He is best known for his role as Benjen Stark in Game of Thrones, as Jesus Christ in The Passion, and as Odysseus in Troy: Fall of a City.
Joseph Mawle – Age, Parents, Siblings
Joseph Mawle’s birth took place on 21 March 1974 in Oxford, Oxfordshire, England as Joseph Daniel Turner Mawle. His father Richard Mawle works as a farmer while his mother worked as a teacher. In fact, he came from a family with a history of nine generations of farming in Warwickshire.
He was raised with two other siblings. For education, Mawle attended Croft prep school where he was diagnosed with severe dyslexia. As a result, he went to a boarding school for special needs from the ages of 13 to 16.
At the age of 16, he left school to pursue acting but he contracted labyrinthitis. The condition left with 70 percent hearing-impaired in the upper register and with tinnitus. His parents had divorced around this time and he had moved into a caravan to live by himself.

He studied performing arts at the Business and Technology Education Council (BTEC) and later studied at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School with a scholarship, graduating in 2002.

Joseph Mawle – Career
Before fame
Through his illness, Joseph Mawle began studying at BTEC in performing after persuading the director of the local college at Stratford-upon-Avon. While studying he did odd jobs including a dishwasher and fitness instructor.
He did some acting at the Box Clever Theatre Company while also producing the play Solo Hamlet. In 2002, he had the opportunity to appear in the Irish Hurling TV adverts for Guinness while also working as an assistant in a special needs school.
Finally, in 2003, he landed his major role as Troilus in the Nuffield Theatre production of Troilus and Cressida followed by Royal Exchange, Manchester's production of Antony and Cleopatra. Only in 2006, did he land his breakthrough role of Dean Whittingham, the lead character in Soundproof.

Since then, Joseph Mawle has starred in the TV series Dalziel and Pascoe (2006), Persuasion (2007), The Passion (2008), Five Daughters (2010), Game of Thrones as Benjen Stark (2011, 2016-2017), to name a few.
He has also portrayed roles in films including Heartless (2009), Made in Dagenham (2010), The Cold Light of Day (2012), Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (2012), Shell(2012), The Hallow (2015), Troy: Fall of a City (2018), Mr. Jones (2019), among others.
