Early Days
Cook’s mother used to be a professional equestrian and he too was raised around horses. He was eight years old when he received his first. Soon he began training under the wings of renowned trainers Graeme and Lu Thomas of Willow Tree Farm. Karl Cook trained with them for the next twelve years.
However, his early career as an equestrian was unsuccessful, having performed below expectations at the USEF Olympic Selection Trials. He had also considered leaving the sport.
Grand Prix
Knowing he had to put in more effort, Karl Cook relocated with his horses to Normandy, France where he teamed up with retired French athlete Eric Navet in 2012. Two years later, in 2014, he registered for the Grand Prix where he won with horses Jonkheer Z and Basimodo.
Besides, Cook has won the FEI North American Junior Young Rider Championship (2007, 2008) and finished first in the SmartPak Grand Prix, UltrOz Jumper, and Card Flex Grand Prix.
