Mulvany began her career in 1997. In theater, she played Cassius, Lady Macbeth, and Richard III. Her adaptation of Craig Silvey’s novel Jasper Jones was played by Barking Gecko Theatre Company in Perth, by Belvoir St Theatre in Sydney, and by Melbourne Theatre Company in Melbourne.

Her adaptation of Ruth Park's The Harp in the South trilogy as a two-part play was played in Sydney Theatre Company in the year 2018 followed by an adaptation of the Schiller play Mary Stuart.
