Kevin McCloud was born on 8 May 1959 in Bedfordshire, England. His father is Donald McCloud who worked as a rocket scientist and his mother is deceased. He also has siblings, two brothers named Terence and Graham McCloud.
Talking about his father, he remembers, “He bought a three-bedroom semi that was incomplete, and added an extension. He was a builder, a designer, and an engineer, all his life. He always had a project.”

McCloud attended Dunstable Grammar School for his education. He then went on to attend Corpus Christi College, Cambridge where he studied the history of art and architecture. There he was a member of Cambridge University Footlights Dramatic Club simply known as Footlights Comedy alongside Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie.

Kevin McCloud – Career
Early Days
After graduation from the University, Kevin McCloud trained as a theatre designer, working with different productions. Gradually, he set up his own lighting design practice and his own business McCloud Lighting.
In early 2007, he opened HAB (Happiness, Architecture, Beauty) Housing Limited in Swindon, Wiltshire. 2 years later in October 2009, HAB and housing group GreenSquare, collectively called HAB Oakus granted planning permission for its first housing scheme in Swindon. The construction of the 42-home scheme, called The Triangle, was completed in late 2011.
The construction process was filmed and broadcast as part of The Grand Designs' episode called Kevin's Grand Design. He also is an editor of The Grand Designs Magazine

Kevin McCloud published his first book titled Kevin McCloud's Decorating Book in 1990. His other books include The Techniques of Decorating (1995), Kevin McCloud's Lighting Book (1995), and The Complete Decorator (1996).
His first TV appearance was in Homefront on BBC Two as a guest presenter. He also wrote and presented the shows Grand Designs Indoors and Grand Designs Abroad and has been presenting The Grand Designs since April 1999.
