Kristen Schaal is an American actress.

Kristen Schaal was born on January 24, 1978, as Kristen Joy Schaal. Her birthplace is Longmont, Colorado, U.S.A., and her mother worked as a secretary while her father worked as a construction worker. She has an older sibling, a brother named David Schaal. Both were raised on their parent’s cattle ranch near rural areas of Boulder.

After finishing high school, Kristen Schaal enrolled at Northwestern University. After graduating from there, she moved to New York in 2000.

Her ethnicity includes German, English, and Dutch.

Kristen Schaal loves her privacy and has managed to keep most of her personal life private. But she did share that she was dating Rich Blomquist, the former Daily Show writer. She married her boyfriend turned fiancé on September 14, 2012. 

She and her husband became parents after she gave birth to their child, a daughter named Ruby Blomquist in February 2018. She announced the exciting news via Instagram on February 11, 2018.

There are no rumors of divorce or affairs surrounding the married pair.

In comedy

Living in New York as a stand-up comedian was not easy for Schaal. Finally, after around 5 years in New York, she got her first break. In 2005, she was featured in New York magazine's article titled, "The Ten Funniest New Yorkers You've Never Heard Of".

After a series of awards received for Comedy, she has appeared in Comedy Central’s Live at Gotham and has co-hosted  Hot Tub. Furthermore, Schaal has had several rave performances under her belt.

In acting

Over the years, Kristen Schaal has starred in Delirious (2006), Norbit (2007), When in Rome (2010), Valentine's Day (2010), The Muppets (2011), and All Nighter (2017). 

She has also lent her voice acting skills in Shrek Forever After (2010), Toy Story 3 (2010), Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 (2013), Despicable Me 2 (2013), Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie (2017), Toy Story 4 (2019), etc.

Kristen Schaal has also worked in TV shows, making appearances in The Education of Max Bickford (2001-2002), Flight of the Conchords (2007-2009), WordGirl (2010-2015), 30 Rock (2012-2013), Gravity Falls (2012-2016), The Hotwives of Orlando (2014), BoJack Horseman (2014-2017), The Last Man on Earth (2015-2018), etc.

For her work in BoJack Horseman, she earned a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance.

Books

The “queen” of Comedy, paired up with her husband to write a book full of humor. The book titled The Sexy Book of Sexy Sex was published in July 2010 by Chronicle Books.

Kristen Schaal also revealed that initially, she had thought of publishing the book under pseudonyms because she did not want anyone to imagine her doing those things. But they soon realized that their name would be mandatory while promoting the book.

For her performance at the 2006 HBO US Comedy Arts Festival, she was awarded the title of Best Alternative Comedian. Schaal won the award for the HBO US Comedy Arts Festival. 

She also went on to win the Andy Kaufman Award, Best Female Stand-up at the 2006 Nightlife Awards, and the 2007 ECNY Awards’ Best Female Stand-Up Comedian. 

To add to her list, she won the Barry Award at the 2008 Melbourne International Comedy Festival.

For her work in BoJack Horseman, she earned a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance.
