Who is Lisa-Kainde Diaz?

Lisa-Kainde Diaz is a singer, songwriter, and musician by profession, and French by nationality. Along with her twin sister Naomi Diaz, they form Ibeyi, a duo of Soul, R&B, downtempo, electronic, experimental, and trip-hop genres.

Lisa-Kainde Diaz’s birth took place on 13 December 1994 in Paris, France. She was born to her father Anga Díaz, a Grammy Award-winning Cuban percussionist, and her French-Venezuelan mother Maya Dagnino, a singer.

She is not the only child of her parents and has two siblings, twin sister Naomi Diaz and older sister Yanira Diaz, who died in 2013. They lived in Havana for the first two years of their lives and moved to Paris where they were educated and raised. The Diaz twins play Yoruba folk songs.

Early Career

When Lisa-Kainde Diaz and Naomi Diaz were 19 years old, they formed the band Ibeyi. Her mother encouraged her to write songs and also served as their manager. In 2013 the duo signed with the record label, XL Recordings.

Albums, EP

Lisa-Kainde Diaz and Naomi Diaz released their Extended Play (EP) titled Oya EP on August 7, 2014. 

Ibeyi released a total of two studio albums – Ibeyi on February 17, 2015, and Ash on September 29, 2017. Over the years they have also released more than 5 singles including Exhibit Diaz and Lost in My Mind including the 2014 hit River. They have also opened Chanel’s cruise collection show in Havana.
