Matilda Szydagis is an actress, writer by profession, and American by nationality. She is well known for starring in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel as Zelda, The Sopranos, and The Nanny Diaries.

Matilda Szydagis’ birth took place on 26th January 1974 in Chicago, Illinois, USA. She was born Matilda Michele Szydagis to parents who were Polish immigrants. Her father Jakub “Kuba” Szydagis passed away in March 2021 at the age of 82 while the details of her mother Jadwiga Szydagis are not known.

She is not the only child of her parents and has a sibling, a sister named Katarzyna "Kathy" Muller, who is now a playwright. They were raised on the Southwest side of Chicago in Marquette Park.

She was educated at Maria High School where she played tennis was an MVP and went to the States Championship. After graduation, she went on to study at the University of Chicago, where she graduated with a degree in Anthropology. 

Moreover, she attended the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York City and took commercial classes at Weist Barron and TVI Studios.

Matilda Szydagis married her longtime boyfriend Kevin Downey Jr. on 30 October 2004. She and her husband remained married for the next five years. Their divorce was finalized on 23 June 2009 and they did not have any children together.
