Melika Foroutan’s birth took place in 1976 in Tehran, Iran. Her Iranian father’s name is Bahman Foroutan but the name of her German mother is not known. Her parents had met in Paris in the 1970s where her father studied filmography, and her mother worked as an au pair. She has a sibling, a sister named Naika Foroutan.

While living in Tehran, Foroutan’s mother worked at Daimler-Benz and her father refused to work on propaganda movies for the Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. Instead, he worked as a football coach, even coaching the Iranian national football team for about six months. The family moved back to Boppard, Germany in 1981 as the Iranian Revolution had begun.

After graduating from the University of Arts (UdK) in Berlin, she joined the company at the Schauspielhaus Leipzig. Melika Foroutan’s debut role was in Für dich mein Herz (2000). This was followed by appearances in the German TV series and films Blond: Eva Blond! (2004), Das Zimmermädchen und der Millionär (2004), Vogel im Käfig (2006), Alles über Anna (2006), Krieg der Frauen (2006).

Finally, Foroutan landed a role in the 2006 film Wut (Rage) which is considered her breakthrough role.
