Who is Naomi Diaz?

Naomi Diaz is a singer, songwriter, and musician by profession, and French by nationality. She is one half of the duo, Ibeyi, the other one being her twin sister Lisa-Kainde Diaz.

Naomi Diaz – Bio, Age, Parents, Siblings

Naomi Diaz’s birth took place on 13 December 1994 in Paris, France. She was born to Grammy Award-winning Cuban percussionist Anga Diaz (father) and  French-Venezuelan singer Maya Dagnino (mother).

She is not the only child of her parents and has two siblings – twin sister Lisa-Kainde Diaz and older sister Yanira Diaz, who died in 2013. The Diaz twins lived the first two years of their lives in  Havana and moved to Paris where they were educated and raised. They also spent much of their childhood visiting Cuba.

Naomi Diaz's educational history has not been shared with the public. Her ethnicity includes Cuban, Venezuelan, and Tunisian.

Unlike her early life and career, Naomi Diaz’s personal life revolving around her relationships and boyfriends is a tightly held secret. She has not shared her romantic encounters nor have there been reports of her dating anybody.

Naomi Diaz – Career

Early Career

On the day their father died in 2009, they began playing Cajon. Naomi Diaz and Lisa-Kainde Diaz got together to form the group Ibeyi at the age of 19. Their mother also encouraged them to write songs and later became their manager. In 2013 Ibeyi was into the record label XL Recordings.

Albums, EP

Naomi Diaz and Lisa-Kainde Diaz released their first EP on August 7, 2014. The EP, titled Oya EP, gained much attention but did not break international records. 

This was followed by the release of Ibeyi’s two studio albums Ibeyi on February 17, 2015, and Ash on September 29, 2017. Their 2014 single River from the album Ibeyi was a massive hit and broke international records.

Collaborations

Naomi Diaz has worked with Kamasi Washington, Mala Rodriguez, and Beyonce in her visual album Lemonade.
