Who is Nomzamo Mbatha?

Nomzamo Mbatha is an actress, human rights activist, businesswoman by profession, and a South African. She is well known for starring in the film Coming 2 America.

Nomzamo Mbatha – Birth, Parents, Siblings

Nomzamo Mbatha’s birth took place on 13 July 1990 in KwaMashu Township, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Her birth name is Nomzamo Nxumalo Mbatha, and she was born to her mother Manatuku Mbata and her father Skuta Nxumalo, who passed away when she was 14 years old. 

Her parents also have other children. Among her siblings, one of her brothers is named Zamani Mbatha, also an actor, and her younger sister Carla died at the age of 20. Mbatha had revealed that she is an aunt to 13 nieces and nephews.

Education, Ethnicity

For education, Nomzamo Mbatha attended Rippon Primary School and Bechet High School. Following graduation, she went on to study at the University of Cape Town. She graduated from the same institution in 2018 with a Bachelor of Commerce degree specializing in Accounting. 

Her ethnicity is South African.

Mbatha is currently in a rumored relationship with cricket star Kagiso Rabada. She was in a relationship with South African TV presenter and businessman Maps Maponyane. But they broke up in 2018 over the cheating allegation.

Nomzamo Mbatha – Career

Films, TV Series

Mbatha began her career in 2012 following an audition for a TV show. This was followed by minor roles, and she also started acting on Isibaya. The show was later converted into a daily soap opera. Other films in which Nomzamo Mbatha has starred are Tell Me Sweet Something (2015), All About Love (2017), Hotel Called Memory (2017), Coming 2 America (2021), Assassin (2023), among others.

She portrays Nandi in the TV series Shaka iLembe (2023-2025).

In 2015, she was selected to represent Neutrogena, making her the first South African to hold the position.

Human rights activist

Mbatha is also a human rights activist. In 2018, she was recognized as one of the OkayAfrika 100 Women 2018 Honorees, and the same year, she toured Kenyan refugee camps in her role as UNHCR Ambassador. 

In January 2019, she was selected as a UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador. She was also inducted into the Golden Key International Honour Society as one of its Honorary members in October 2019.
