His father is Carla Oswalt and his mother is Larry J. Oswalt. Oswalt's mom is a Marine Corps officer in the USA. He has one sibling - younger brother Matt Oswalt, who is a comedy writer and a YouTuber with the youtube channel Puddin.

Patton Oswalt – Girlfriend, Wife, Children, Death
Patton Oswalt married Michelle McNamara, a true crime writer, and journalist on September 24, 2005. They were blessed with one daughter Alice (2009).
McNamara died on April 21, 2016, in her sleep at home in Los Angeles, California. Her death was due to a combination of undiagnosed heart conditions and complications from prescribed medication. Slowly and eventually he overcame the tragedy.
He started dating and found love again. He got engaged to actress Meredith Salenger in July 2017 and married on November 4, 2017.

Patton Oswalt started his career on July 18, 1989. In 1996, he performed a comedy special for HBO and acted in films Down Periscope and the television show Seinfeld.
He bagged the lead role in Big Fan which was followed by roles in the sitcom The King of Queens as Spence Olchin, The United States of Tara as Neil, Mystery Science Theater 3000, and the film Magnolia.
Following his initial success in acting, he soon landed roles in movies and shows namely 22 Jump Street, A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas, Young Adult, and Two and a Half Men. Oswalt also played in Broadway Lips Together, Teeth Apart, and comedy miniseries The Heart, She Holler.
He provided his voice for 2007's Ratatouille as Remy the lead character, WordGirl (2007), SpongeBob SquarePants (2007), Lobotomy, Minecraft: Story Mode (2015), Sorry to Bother You (2018), The Secret Life of Pets 2 (2019).

He released the book Zombie Spaceship Wasteland in 2011 and I'll Be Gone in the Dark on February 27, 2018.
He completed his late wife McNamara's non-fictional book Golden State Killer as well. While he was completing his late wife's non-fictional writing, the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department arrested the Golden State Killer.
As the book had unanswered questions from his late wife, he visited the suspect to ask questions that his wife wanted to get answered. These answers to the questions were written in "Letter To An Old Man" at the end of her book.
Animal Activist
Oswalt is an animal lover and is engaged with PETA. He spoke out against chaining pet dogs in 2013 and sent a letter to the mayor and members of the city council of Newport News, Virginia to ban such practices.
