Who is Peter Dinklage?

Peter Dinklage is an actor, producer by profession, and American by nationality. He is best known for his role in Game of Thrones as Tyrion Lannister, Living in Oblivion, and The Station Agent.

Peter Dinklage’s birth took place on June 11, 1969, in Morristown, New Jersey, USA. He was born Peter Hayden Dinklage to parents John Carl Dinklage, an insurance salesman, and Diane Dinklage, an elementary-school music teacher. He was born with dwarfism.

Education, Ethnicity

He has an older sibling, a brother named Jonathan Dinklage who is a violinist. Peter Dinklage was educated at Delbarton School, where he developed his love for acting. He then attended Bennington College, graduating in 1991 with a degree in drama.

His ethnicity includes German, Irish, and English.

Peter Dinklage – Girlfriend, Wife, Children, Divorce

Peter Dinklage is a happily married man. He married his longtime girlfriend Erica Schmidt on April 16, 2005, after getting engaged to her in November 2004. Schmidt is a theatre director. He and his wife have welcomed two children together.

Their first child, a daughter was born in 2011 but has not revealed her name to the public. It was revealed that the couple welcomed a second child, a son in 2017 but did not share the name of their baby.

As of now, the couple is happily married without any rumors of divorce or extramarital affairs, raising their two children best they can.

Peter Dinklage – Career

Before fame

Soon after graduation, Peter Dinklage moved to New York City with a friend to build a theater company. But due to failure to pay the rent, they moved out of their work. He then worked at a data processing company for six years before finally deciding to pursue a career as a full-time actor.

But Dinklage struggled to find work mostly because he refused roles such as elves or leprechauns, the roles which are typically offered to actors with his condition. In 1995, he was cast in the film Living in Oblivion followed by roles in Bullet (1996), and 13 Moons (2002).

Worked in

Finally, in 2003, Peter Dinklage landed his breakthrough role in The Station Agent as Finbar McBride. This was followed by roles in films  Tiptoes (2003),  Lassie,  Find Me Guilty (2006), Death at a Funeral,  Ice Age: Continental Drift (2012), Knights of Badassdom (2014), X-Men: Days of Future Past, Avengers: Infinity War (2018),  The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, Penelope.

He also starred in the TV series Nip/Tuck, and Entourage, to name a few. But most of all, he is known for portraying Tyrion Lannister in Game of Thrones from 2011 to 2019.

Peter Dinklage has starred alongside Steve Buscemi, Tupac Shakur, Gary Oldman, Matthew McConaughey, and Vin Diesel.

Dinklage has been awarded three Emmys in the years 2011, 2015, and 2018 for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series while earning four Emmy nominations. 

He had also had 14 Screen Actors Guild Award nominations since 2003 and was the winner of 2017’s  Screen Actors Guild Awards — Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.

In addition, he has earned two Critics' Choice Award nominations and is named the winner of 2012’s Golden Globe — Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Series, Miniseries or Motion Picture Made for Television.
