Early Days

Following graduation, Coffin went on to work at the 2D London-based facility Amblin. While there he worked on We're Back! A Dinosaur's Story which was executive produced by Steven Spielberg. After his short career at Amblin, he went on to work as a freelance animator in the French CGI studio Ex Machina. He eventually began to work as an animator and eventually animation supervisor for the company.

Pierre Coffin’s directorial debut was with the 1997’s Pings.

Over the years he has worked in the films We're Back! A Dinosaur's Story (1993), and short films Gary's Day (2003), Home Makeover (2010), Orientation Day (2010), Banana (2010), and Brad & Gary (2011). Coffin is best known for directing the animated movies Despicable Me (2010), Despicable Me 2 (2013), Despicable Me 3 (2017), Minions (2015), and Minions: The Rise of Gru  (2021). He also voiced minions in the franchise.

Moreover, Pierre Coffin has also credited and directed the animated TV series Pat & Stan (2004-2010).
