Pom Klementieff’s birth took place on 3 May 1986 in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada. Her full name is Pom Alexandra Klementieff. Her Russian-French father Alexis Klementieff worked as a consul with the government of France while the profession of her Korean mother Yu Ri Park is not known. She is not the only child of her parents and has a sibling- an older brother named Namou Klementieff. The family lived in Japan, Ivory Coast, before settling in France.

When she was just five years old, her father passed away from cancer and her mother, who was schizophrenic was unable to take care of Pom and her brother. So, the siblings were raised by their paternal uncle and aunt. Klementieff’s uncle, whom she regarded as her second father, died on her 18th birthday. Just seven years later, Pom Klementieff’s brother died by suicide on her 25th birthday.

To appease her aunt, Klementieff briefly attended law school before dropping out. She went on to study at the Cours Florent drama school in Paris. While also working as a waitress and saleswoman. After winning a theatre competition, she was awarded free classes for two years.

This was followed by appearances in the French films Loup (2009), Borderline (2011), Sleepless Night (2011), Love Lasts Three Years (2011), Radiostars (2012), Paris à tout prix (2013), among others. Her American film debut was in the film Oldboy (2013) as Haeng-Bok.

After minor roles in the films Hacker's Game (2015), and Ingrid Goes West (2017), she landed her breakthrough role of Mantis in the Marvel Comic Universe (MCU) film Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017).
