Who is Rotimi?

Rotimi, born Olurotimi Akinosho, is an actor, singer, model by profession, and American by nationality. He is well known for starring in the Starz series Boss as Darius Morrison, in Power as Andre Coleman, and in the film Coming 2 America. As a musician, he has released 3 EPs, 4 singles, 3 mixtapes, and 5 music videos.

Rotimi’s birth took place on November 30, 1988, in Maplewood, New Jersey, USA. Born as Olurotimi Akinosho to Nigerian parents, he has no siblings and is the only child. His father Segun Akinosho (of Yoruba descent) worked as an investment banker while his mother (of Igbo origin) worked for the government.

For education, Rotimi attended Columbia High School. Following graduation, he went on to study at Northwestern University and graduated from the same in 2010 with a bachelor's degree in major in Theater and a minor in Business.

Rotimi is currently in a relationship with Tanzanian singer and radio personality Vanessa Mdee. The couple had been dating since 2019 and seems to be very much in love. He frequently features his girlfriend on social media pages. The couple got engaged in December 2020.

They welcomed their first child together- son Seven in September 2021. In  November 2022, they announced that they were pregnant with their second child- a daughter. 

Although it is unclear if the pair have actually married, there have been no rumors of divorce/separation surrounding the pair.

With support and encouragement from his family, he became a wedding singer by the age of 4 and went on to sing in the church choir. While his mother worked as a manager, he was placed in an amateur night competition at the Apollo Theater in Harlem at the age of 15.

As a professional singer, Rotimi has released 3 EPs, 4 singles, 3 mixtapes, and 5 music videos. His EPs are Jeep Music Vol. 1 (2017), Walk with Me (2019), The Beauty of Becoming (2019), and mixtapes are The Resume (2011), While You Wait (2011), Royal Wednesday (2015), Summer Bangerz (2016). Moreover, he has worked with artists such as  Jennifer Hudson, T.I., Estelle, NERD, and Keyshia Cole. 

He is also the lead model as well as a spokesperson of rapper T.I.'s clothing line AKOO Clothing.

Rotimi has also worked as an actor in dozens of TV series and films. The films in which he has starred include Black Nativity (2013), Divergent (2014), Imperial Dreams (2017), Deuces (2017), and Coming 2 America (2020), among others. He has also had appearances in the episode(s) of the TV series Boss (2011-2012), Betrayal (2013), Battle Creek (2015), Power (2015-2020), Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (2017) and has hosted 2017’s BET Experience.
