After graduation, she worked for a private clothing company. There she was a fashion designer and artist. After a few years, she gradually became more and more interested in tattoo art. 

In 2016, Malarkey participated as a contestant in the 8th season of Ink Master Tattoo. Her skill as a tattoo artist surpassed other competitors and she won the competition and walked home with $ 100k. 

This was a big stepping stone, not only for her but for all women tattoo artists alike as she was the first woman to win the competition. Ryan Ashley Malarkey’s career path then took her to star on a spin-off show of the Ink Master called Ink Masters: Angels alongside Kelly Doty, Nikki Simpson, and Gia Rose.

On the competitive show, she traveled all over the country holding tournaments and competitions. She was also featured in the second season of the show, which aired in March.

She is also a co-owner of an e-commerce platform called The Strange & Unusual Oddities Parlor which sells exotic accessories from bath bombs, taxidermy, antique dolls, to animal skulls! The other co-owner of the shop is Josh Balz.
