Sam Richardson is an actor, writer, and comedian by profession, and American by nationality. He is well known for starring in Detroiters, in Veep as Richard Splett, and in the YouTube Premium series Champaign ILL as Alf.

Sam Richardson’s birth took place on January 12, 1984, in Detroit, Michigan, USA. He was born to his father Lamar N. Richardson Jr., of African American descent, and his mother Lydia Richardson, who is from Ghana. His parents raised him along with his two older siblings- brother Jason Richardson and sister Laura Richardson.
Growing up the family visited Ghana once or twice a year where his grandfather W. A. Wiafe, a chief and local political leader, lived.

After graduating from the University of Detroit Jesuit High School and Academy in 2001, Sam Richardson went on to study at Wayne State University. He studied theatre there and in 2016 was honored at Wayne State University's 37th Arts Achievement Awards with the Career Achievement Award in the Field of Theatre.
His ethnicity includes Ghanaian and African-American.

Early Days
In his early career, Richardson performed at the Second City sketch theatre group in Detroit as well as Chicago. He then moved to Los Angeles where he landed roles in the TV series Harder Than It Looks (2012), Arrested Development (2013), The Office (2013), etc.
Finally, in 2014 he was cast as the main character Richard Splett in the political satire comedy TV series Veep. He portrayed the character, which is his breakthrough role, for a total of 40 episodes, until 2019.

Over the years Sam Richardson has been credited in several films as well as TV series. Some films in which he has starred include Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising (2016), Ralph Breaks the Internet (2018), Promising Young Woman (2020), The Tomorrow War (2021), Werewolves Within, etc.
Moreover, Richardson has had guest appearances in the TV series Son of Zorn (2016), The Comedy Jam (2017), Archer (2019), Curb Your Enthusiasm (2020), and recurring roles in The Second City Project (2015), Detroiters (2017-2018), Champaign ILL (2018), BoJack Horseman (2019-2020), etc. Also, he lent his voice as Muninn in Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2018-2019).
