Early Career
Rao became interested in acting at the age of 15. She began her career as a professional actress in the early 2000s. Her debut role was as Mira in the 2002 film Leela. This was followed by minor roles in the film Lions for Lambs (2007), My Best Friend's Girl, and TV series Bones (2006), The Big Bang Theory (2007), Hawthorne (2009), etc.
Finally, in 2010, Sarayu Rao was cast as Angela in the TV series Sons of Tucson, which gained her wide recognition.
