We all know the funny man Stephen Colbert! His show, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and The Colbert Report are the best comical talk programs there is! He helps us know our favorite celebrity better but how much do we know about him?

Stephen Colbert – Age, Parents, Siblings
Stephen Colbert was born on May 13, 1964, in Washington, D.C., the U.S. His birth name is Stephen Tyrone Colbert and he was born to mother Lorna Elizabeth Colbert, a homemaker, and father James William Colbert Jr., an immunologist and medical school dean at Yale University, Saint Louis University who later became vice president for academic affairs at the Medical University of South Carolina.
Colbert was brought up in a large Catholic family by his parents. He had 10 other siblings and he was the youngest one. His siblings by age are James III, Edward, Mary, William, Margo, Thomas, Jay, Elizabeth, Paul, and Peter.
On September 11, 1974, when he was just 10 years old his father and two brothers (Paul and Peter) died in a plane crash. Stephan’s mother died on June 12, 2013, at the age of 92 because of old age and illness.
Education, Ethnicity
He is of Irish, English, and German ethnicity and is American by nationality.
For education, Colbert attended Episcopal Porter-Gaud School and later joined Hampden–Sydney College. But after 2 years, his love and interest in acting led to his transfer to Northwestern University in 1984.
Stephen Colbert – Mental Health
Colbert shared that during his college days, he had suffered from depression and anxiety from time to time. To deal with his failing mental health he revealed that he had to undertake medication!
In a 2018 interview with Rolling Stone, he confessed:
"I needed to be medicated when I was younger to deal with my anxiety that I had thrown my life away by attempting to do something that so few people actually get away with, or succeed at ... Xanax was just lovely.
Y'know, for a while. And then I realized that the gears were still smoking. I just couldn't hear them anymore. But I could feel them, I could feel the gearbox heating up and smoke pouring out of me... I stopped the Xanax after, like, nine days.”

Stephen Colbert – Girlfriend, Wife, Children, Divorce
Stephen Colbert has been married to his longtime girlfriend Evelyn "Evie" McGee-Colbert since October 9, 1993. They first met at the world premiere of Hydrogen Jukebox at the Spoleto Festival USA in Charleston.
He has described their meeting as love at first sight. Later they discovered that they had actually grown up together in Charleston and also had many mutual friends.
Colbert and his wife Evelyn have three children. Their first child, daughter Madeline was born in 1995. In 1998, their second child Peter was born. Four years later, their son John was born in 2002.
Currently, the couple is living without rumors of extra-marital affairs or divorce.

Stephen Colbert – Career
After graduating from Northwestern University in 1986, he moved to Chicago and worked in the Second City comedy troupe office. He found out that there was a free improv class and two years after taking it, he joined a traveling group.
For the next two years, Stephen Colbert spent his life traveling. Later his two shows Strangers and Daily Show were a big hit that landed him his own show, The Daily Show.
In 2005, The Colbert Report began airing which featured Stephen Colbert as a host. After David Letterman announced his plans to retire in April 2014, Colbert was selected as his replacement.
Colbert said in this light of his career, “Simply being a guest on David Letterman’s show has been a highlight of my career. I never dreamed that I would follow in his footsteps, though everyone in late night follows Dave’s lead" he added, "I’m thrilled and grateful that CBS chose me. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to go grind a gap in my front teeth.”
