Tahar Rahim is an actor of Algerian descent. The French national is best known for starring in the film A Prophet, Napoleon, and the TV series La Commune, The Serpent.

Tahar Rahim was born on 4 July 1981 in Belfort, France to parents who had immigrated from Oran, Algeria. He calls his mother la femme de ma vie, meaning the woman of my life but has refused to publicly talk about his father. He was raised in Belfort alongside nine older siblings, the oldest one being 20 years his senior. One of his brothers is named Ahmed Rahim.
Growing up in the countryside, there was not much to do for a young boy except to go on bucolic long hikes. So, instead, he went to the local cinema to watch movies and was eventually inspired to pursue a career as an actor.
Education, Ethnicity
From the Lycée Condorcet of Belfort, he earned a Baccalauréat. He went on to enroll in sports and then computer science programs but dropped out after two years. Although Tahar Rahim knew he wanted to become an actor, he joined the University of Montpellier to study film.
In 2005 he moved to Paris to study drama at the Laboratoire de l'Acteur. Rahim studied under Hélène Zidi-Chéruy while supporting himself by working in a factory during the week, and in a nightclub at weekends.
His ethnicity is Algerian.

Tahar Rahim began dating fellow French-Algerian actress Leïla Bekhti after meeting her on the set of A Prophet. He and his longtime girlfriend eventually married in 2010. With his wife, he has two children – a son Souleymane Rahim (born July 2017), and a daughter, born in February 2020.
There are no rumors of divorce surrounding the married celebrity couple.

Early Days
While still a student at the University of Montpellier, his life was chronicled in a documentary called Tahar, student by Cyril Mennegun. IT went on to air in 2006 on France 5, a French TV channel. His role as Yazid Fikry in the 2008 episodes of the TV series La Commune opened his path to more diverse main roles.
Finally, Tahar Rahim’s breakthrough came with the French film A Prophet (2009) as the main character Malik.

Over the years, Tahar Rahim has portrayed characters in the episodes of TV series The Last Panthers (2015), The Looming Tower (2018), The Eddy (2020), The Serpent (2021) as convicted serial killer Charles Sobhraj, Extrapolations, etc.
He has done much more work in the film industry, with over two dozen in number. Some of the films in which he has starred include Les Hommes Libres (2011), Love and Bruises (2011), Our Children (2012), Grand Central (2013), The Cut (2014), The Anarchists (2015), Heal the Living (2016), Mary Magdalene (2018), The Kindness of Strangers (2019), The Mauritanian (2021), Napoleon as Paul Barras.
