Thomasin McKenzie’s birth took place on 26 July 2000 in Wellington, New Zealand. She was born Thomasin Harcourt McKenzie to her mother Miranda Harcourt, an actress, and her father Stuart McKenzie, a writer and director. 

She is the granddaughter of Kate Harcourt, an actress, and Peter Harcourt, whose family founded the real estate company Harcourts International. She is not the only child of her parents and has two siblings- older brother Peter McKenzie and younger sister Davida McKenzie.

Early Days

Following in her family’s footsteps, Thomasin McKenzie started her career as an actress in 2011. She began with minor roles in the films Existence (2012), The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (2014), and The Changeover (2017). 

She also had minor roles in the TV series Shortland Street (2015), The Cul De Sac (2017), and Lucy Lewis Can't Lose (2017).

Breakthrough

Thomasin McKenzie starred in the 2018 film Leave No Trace as Tom, which is considered her breakthrough role. Since then she has starred in The King (2019), Jojo Rabbit (2019), True History of the Kelly Gang (2019), Lost Girls (2020), and Last Night in Soho (2020), among others.
