Who is Tina Knowles?

Tina Knowles is a businesswoman, fashion designer by profession, and American by nationality. For most, she is known as the mother of both singers Beyoncé and Solange Knowles.

Tina Knowles – Age, Parents, Siblings

Tina Knowles’s birth name is Célestine Ann Beyincé. She was born on January 4, 1954, in Galveston, Texas, USA. Her parents are Agnéz Deréon and Lumis Albert Beyincé. She is not the only child and has six older siblings. 

Her brothers are Melvin Marsh Jr. and Lumis Joseph and her sisters are Selena and Flo. The Knowles family is a descendant of Acadian leader Joseph Broussard.

Not much is known about her education and teen years except that while in high school, she was part of a singing group called The Veltones.

Her ethnicity includes African-American, French, and Irish.

Tina Knowles – Boyfriend, Husband, Children, Divorce

Tina Knowles has been married twice and divorced once. Her first husband was Mathew Knowles, an American record executive, talent manager, and businessman. The couple had gotten married on 5 January 1980.

Together they welcomed two children- daughter Beyoncé Giselle Knowles (aka Beyoncé) on September 4, 1981, and daughter Solange Piaget Knowles (aka Solange) on June 24, 1986. In 2009, Tina Knowles filed for divorce citing "discord or conflict of personalities" which prevented them from "reasonable expectation of reconciliation" as the reason.

Their divorce was finalized on 11 November 2011. Knowles went on to date Richard Lawson, an American actor in the summer of 2013. She married her boyfriend on 12 April 2015, making her stepmother to actress Bianca Lawson.

Tina Knowles is now a grandmother to four grandchildren. Her granddaughters are Blue Ivy and Rumi Carter and her grandsons are Daniel Julez J. Smith, Jr. and Sir Carter.

She is the mother-in-law of rapper Jay Z, Alan Ferguson, and ex-mother-in-law of Daniel Smith.

Tina Knowles – Career

Before fame

Tina Knowles started her career when she was 19 years old. She moved to California to work as a makeup artist for Shiseido but soon returned when her parents fell ill. She then worked as a dance choreographer for UAB in Birmingham and later worked as a beautician until 1990.

Knowles soon opened her own salon Headliners in Houston. They also went on to become one of the most successful and famous hair salons in entire Houston.

When her daughter Beyoncé became a member of the rising band Destiny's Child, she presented herself as a designer for the group. In her early days, money was limited. So, Knowles created outfits for the members which they wore onstage.

In 2002, her book Destiny's Style: Bootylicious Fashion, Beauty and Lifestyle Secrets From Destiny's Child was published.

In the early days of her daughter’s career, she acted as manager of both her daughters Beyoncé and Solange Knowles.
