Who is Tom Kaulitz?

Tom Kaulitz is a guitarist, songwriter, and producer by profession, and German by nationality. He is best known as a guitarist of the rock band Tokio Hotel, which he formed with his twin brother Bill Kaulitz, bassist Georg Listing, and drummer Gustav Schafer. 

In February 2019 he married supermodel Heidi Klum, after getting engaged in December 2018.

Tom Kaulitz’s birth took place on September 1, 1989, in Leipzig, Germany. He was born Tom Kaulitz-Trumper to his father Jorg Kaulitz and his mother Simone Kaulitz. He is not the only child of his parents and has an identical twin brother - Bill Kaulitz, who is 10 minutes younger than him.

Their parents divorced when he was 7 years old. His mother went on to marry Gordon Trumper on 1 August 2009, after 12 years of dating. Gordon is a guitarist of German rock band Fatun and a heavy influence on the lives of the Kaulitz twins.

Education, Ethnicity

For education, he attended Elector Joachim Friedrich High School. His ethnicity is German.

Tom Kaulitz – Girlfriend, Wife, Children, Divorce

Kaulitz dated Ria Sommerfeld, an English model, and married his girlfriend on June 19, 2015. But just a little over a year later, they filed for divorce citing irreconcilable differences. They did not have any children together and their divorce was finalized in August 2018.

He went on to date supermodel Heidi Klum in February 2018 and got engaged to her on 24 December 2018. It was revealed in July 2019 that the couple had a secret wedding in February 2019 but has yet to share the details of their wedding.

Tom Kaulitz – Career

Early Career

When Tom Kaulitz was 7 years old, he started writing music and started learning to play guitar. His mother’s then-boyfriend Gordon Trumper noticed his passion for music and his brother Bill Kaulitz’s inclination to sing.

So Gordon helped the boys start their own bands and they began performing in Magdeburg at the age of 10. Eventually, when the Kaulitz twins were 12, they met Georg Listing and Gustav Schafer and formed a named Devilish, which was later renamed Tokio Hotel.

However, the band did not gain success except for an appearance in a small-time German news program between late 20002 and early 2003. Tom Kaulitz’s twin brother then auditioned for Star Search, a reality TV show, which gained their initial recognition.

Albums, Singles

Tom Kaulitz and his band members signed into Universal Music Group's Interscope Records in 2005. Their debut LP Schrei was released the same year and the album’s single Durch den Monsun reached number 1 in Germany.

Already a household name, Tokio Hotel released its second album Zimmer 483 in February 2007. Their first English album Scream, which contained re-recorded songs was released in mid-2007 in Europe and mid-2008 in Western countries, which gained them international attention.

This was followed by the release of albums Humanoid (October 2009), Kings of Suburbia (214), and Dream Machine (2017). Tom Kaulitz and the band have also released compilation albums Best Of TH (2010), and Darkside of the Sun (2011). Moreover, as of 2019, they have released 2 live albums, and 3 EPs, and have had around 7 tours.

Tom Kaulitz – Stalking

In late 2008 and early 2009, several women stalked the band relentlessly. They even stalked Tom Kaulitz to his parent's home in Germany and attacked his mother when she questioned them.

Again in 2009, the stalking incident ended in Tom Kaulitz hitting one of the stalkers at a gas station and driving off. The stalking girl charged him with assault and he, in turn, filed a complaint against the girl on grounds of stalking. The charges against Kaulitz were lifted in December 2009.

So in 2010, the  Kaulitz twins moved to Los Angeles and also have a home in Hamburg.
