Early Days
Selleck’s first TV appearances were in 1995 as a college senior on The Dating Game. This role gave way to numerous commercials and minor appearances in films such as Myra Breckinridge, Coma, and The Seven Minutes.
Tom Selleck landed his big break when he was cast as the lead role of Thomas Magnum in Magnum, P.I. While working on the series pilot, he was offered the role of Indiana Jones in Raiders of Lost Ark. But as the producers of the Magnum, P.I. was not flexible, he had to let the part go.
Magnum P.I. was a huge success and Tom Selleck portrayed the role of Thomas Magnum from 1980 to 1988.
