Tom Selleck is an actor, producer by profession, and American by nationality. He is well known for starring in Magnum P.I., Three Men and a Baby, Blue Bloods, Friends, and The Sacketts.

Tom Selleck’s birth took place on January 29, 1945, in Detroit, Michigan, USA. He was born Thomas William Selleck to his mother, Martha Selleck (née Jagger), a housewife, and his father, Robert Dean Selleck, an executive and real estate investor. 

He is not the only child of his parents and has three siblings- older brother Robert Selleck, younger brother Daniel Selleck, and a younger sister named Martha.

For education, Tom Selleck attended Grant High School, graduating in 1962. He went on to attend Los Angeles Valley College and transferred to the University of Southern California under a basketball scholarship. There, he played for the USC Trojans men's basketball team. 

While he was majoring in Business Administration, a drama coach suggested he take up acting. In his senior year, he dropped out and studied acting at Beverly Hills Playhouse.

He is of Multi-ethnic (English, Scottish, Irish, German) ethnicity.

He has also been in romantic relationships with Goldie Hawn, Lillian Müller, Jill St. John (1981), Mimi Rogers (1982 - 1983), and Marie Helvin (1983).

Tom Selleck married his girlfriend Jillie Mack on 7 August 1987. With his wife, he had a child. Their daughter, Hannah Margaret Selleck, was born on December 16, 1988. She is now an international showjumper.

Tom Selleck – Career

Early Days

Selleck’s first TV appearances were in 1995 as a college senior on The Dating Game. This role gave way to numerous commercials and minor appearances in films such as Myra Breckinridge, Coma, and The Seven Minutes.

Tom Selleck landed his big break when he was cast as the lead role of Thomas Magnum in Magnum, P.I. While working on the series pilot, he was offered the role of Indiana Jones in Raiders of Lost Ark. However, as the producers of Magnum, P.I. were not flexible, he had to let the part go.

Magnum P.I. was a huge success, and Tom Selleck portrayed the role of Thomas Magnum from 1980 to 1988.
