The aspiring actor began his professional career soon after his graduation in the mid-1980s. His first roles were in the films Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives (1986), Gaby: A True Story (1987) and in the TV series Designing Women (1987), Favorite Son (1988), Murphy Brown (1988).
Finally, in 1990, he landed his breakthrough role of Carl Bruner in the film Ghost, for which he was nominated Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actor.
