YFN Lucci was born on February 16, 1991, in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. His Jamaican immigrant parents named him Rayshawn Lamar Bennett at birth. He and his siblings were raised by his single mother, whom he often features on his social media pages.

One of his siblings, his older brother is also a rapper and uses the alias YFN KAY.

Early Days

Having grown up listening to rappers such as  T.I., and Jeezy, YFN Lucci too aspired to become a rapper. He began rapping at the age of 16 and with the encouragement from rapper Johnny Cinco, he began to pursue it as a career.

He signed a record deal with Think It's A Game Entertainment in December 2014 and released his debut mixtape, Wish Me Well. His second mixtape Wish Me Well 2 was released in February 2016 via the same label. It went on to peak at number 183 on the US Billboard 200 chart and was certified Gold by RIAA.

Since then YFN Lucci has released several mixtapes – LucciVandross (July 2018), 650Luc: Gangsta Grillz (June 2019), History (December 2019), Lost Pages (February 2020), Wish Me Well 3 (December 2020).

Meanwhile, he also released several extended plays (EPs) such as Long Live Nut (April 2017), Freda’s Son (February 2018), See No Evil (April 2018), 3 EP (November 2018), 3: The Sequel EP (December 2018), Corona Pack EP (April 2020).

YFN Lucci released his debut studio album Ray Ray from Summerhill in March 2018. It peaked at number 14 on the US Billboard 200 chart.

YFN Lucci – Legal Issue, Crime

On January 12, 2021, YFN Lucci’s arrest warrant was issued by the Atlanta Police Department (APD). He was charged with the fatal shooting of a 28-year-old man, wounding another man, and "aggravated assault and participation in criminal street gang activity." He turned himself in on January 13, 2021, and was eventually released on February 8, 2021 – on house arrest and posting a $500,000 bond.

Along with 11 other people, YFN Lucci was arrested in May 2021 after  Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis filed a 105-count RICO indictment against the suspects. According to The Atlanta Police Department, the rapper was a member of a faction of LA-based primarily African-American street gang Bloods. Other criminal charges included racketeering, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and violating the state's anti-gang law.

After pleading guilty, he cut a plea bargain on January 23, 2024, and was sentenced to 20 years in prison – 10 years on probation and 10 years in prison.
