YNW Melly, born Jamell Maurice Demons, is a rapper, singer by profession, and American by nationality. He is well known for his songs Murder on My Mind, Mixed Personalities, Suicidal, 223’s, and debut album Melly vs. Melvin.

YNW Melly’s birth took place on May 1, 1999, in Gifford, Florida, USA as Jamell Maurice Demons. His mother’s name is Jamie Demons-King. She raised him single-handedly as he has never met his biological father. However, another rapper Donte "Tha Gift" Taylor has claimed to be his father. His younger brother is Ynw Bslime.
Jamie had got pregnant with YNW Melly while she was just 14 years old and gave birth to him in ninth grade. The mother and son later moved to the poorer part of Gifford where his mother struggled to provide basic requirements.

YNW Melly – Arrests, Convictions
YNW Melly joined the gang called Bloods at a very young age. In late 2015, he was arrested for shooting a group of students near Vero Beach High School in Florida. He was convicted of the crimes including aggravated battery, discharging a firearm in public, and two counts of aggravated assault. YNW Melly eventually several months in prison.
Again in 2017, he was arrested for violating probation and jailed for several months before being released in March 2018.
He was arrested for possession of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and possession of weapons or ammunition by a convicted felon in June 2018.
In January 2019, YNW Melly was arrested for possession of marijuana.
Just a month later, on February 12, 2019, he was charged with two counts of first-degree murder in connection to the fatal shooting of two rappers YNW Sakchaser (Williams) and YNW Juvy (Thomas Jr.) as fellow YNW rapper Cortlen Henry (YNW Bortlen) as an accomplice. On February 13, 2019, YNW Melly turned himself in, which was also announced on Instagram.
The same month, he and Henry were revealed to be suspects in the murder of Indian River County Sheriff's Department deputy Gary Chambliss, who was off duty at the time.
YNW Melly’s initial trial was set for March 7, 2022, but has been pushed back until June 6, 2022. After the trial did not commence, the rapper decided to submit a speedy trial request on May 26, 2022.
On July 6, 2022, it was shared that even if YNW Melly was convicted of murder, he would not face capital punishment.

Early Days
At the age of 15, YNW Melly began posting his songs on SoundCloud and eventually adopted his current stage name in 2016. While still serving time in prison, he released his first EP titled Collect Call and the following year released numerous singles such as Virtual (Blue Balenciagas), Melly the Menace, Slang That Iron, Butter Pecan, Medium Fries which went on to find the various amount of success.
His debut mixtape I Am You, which was released in August 2018, climbed to number 192 on the Billboard 200 on January 10, 2019.
EPs, Albums
YNW Melly released his second mixtape We All Shine, which consisted of 16 tracks, on January 18, 2019. It had collaborations with rappers such as Kanye West, Fredo Bang, and music videos directed by Cole Bennett. His debut studio album Melly vs. Melvin was released on November 22, 2019, and went on to peak at number eight on the Billboard 200. His second studio album Just a Matter of Slime was released on August 13, 2021.
