Who is Zain Asher?

Zain Asher is a news anchor at CNN International and is based in New York City, USA. She is also the younger sister of Hollywood star Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Zain Asher – Age, Parents, Siblings

Zain Asher’s birth took place on August 27, 1983, in Balham, London Borough of Wandsworth, England. She was born Zain Ejiofor Asher to Nigerian parents Arinze Ejiofor, a doctor, and Obiajulu Ejiofor, a pharmacist. 

She has two siblings, an older brother named Chiwetel Ejiofor, who is now an actor, and his sister Kandibe Ejiofor, a medical doctor. Asher’s father died in a car accident in 1988 in Nigeria while her brother survived with serious injuries.

Education, Ethnicity

For education, she attended Keble College, Oxford University, and graduated from the same in 2005 with a degree in Spanish and French. She also attended Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism, graduating in 2006 with an MS.

Her ethnicity is Igbo-Nigerian.

Zain Asher is a happily married woman. Her husband is Steve Peoples. Peoples is a successful reporter as well. After dating, the couple got engaged in April 2016 while on vacation or immediately after returning home. 

The couple married on September 30, 2017, in a beautiful wedding ceremony in Portugal. The event was attended by both her siblings Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kandibe Ejiofor.

On August 13, 2018, Asher shared via Instagram that they were pregnant and will soon be welcoming a baby. The couple welcomed their son in late 2018 and In December 2018, they were happy to show off their new family member. The couple welcomed a second child, also a boy in July 2021.

Zain Asher – Career

Before moving to New York, Asher was working in Lille, France as a researcher for France 3,  in England as a reporter for SIX TV, in Mexico as Guadalajara Colony Reporter, and at Red Radio Universidad de Guadalajara as an associate producer.

Before fame

In the wake of her career, Zain Asher was a full-time reporter for Money. There she wrote personal finance articles. Before she had worked for 2 years as a TV reporter for News 12 Brooklyn and reported from numerous places in the US including Brooklyn, the Bronx, and Connecticut.

In February 2013, Asher joined CNN as a business correspondent and is currently based in New York City. She used to co-anchor CNN Newsroom at 1 am ET on CNN America and now she anchors CNN Newsroom on Fridays and Saturdays at 2:30 pm ET on CNN International.

In addition, she is a columnist and writes a monthly column for Money Magazine having already written for The Guardian, The Oxford Student, and ASmallWorld.net. She is also the host of Marketplace Africa, CNNI’s weekly business show.
