Ashanti and Nelly engaged – pregnant with their first child
Ashanti is expecting her first child!
The singer revealed to Essence that she and fellow singer Nelly are not only engaged but are also pregnant with their first child together.
Ashanti, 43, told the outlet, “This new year of my life is such a blessing full of love, hope, and anticipation. Motherhood is something that I have looked forward to, and sharing this with my family, fiancé, and loyal fans, who have been so supportive of my career, is an amazing experience.”
The Foolish singer also confirmed the news on Instagram.
“Imma need about nine months,” she told her mother Tina Douglas as she showed her a positive Proov pregnancy test.
She also tagged her partner Nelly, 49, in the post, which read, “Baby baby baby baby…..”
Rumors of the pregnancy had started in December 2023.
In a viral clip on X, Ashanti Shequoiya Douglas and Nelly - Cornell Iral Haynes Jr. – partied at Nelly’s Black and White Ball in St. Louis and they couldn’t keep their hands off Ashanti’s belly.
The soon-to-be mom seems to be trying to hide her baby bump - by wearing oversized jersey dresses during her recent performances.
The couple first met in 2003 at a Grammys Awards press conference and dated for a decade. After sharing that he “betrayed” her, they broke up in 2013.
In April 2023, there were rumors of reconciliation surrounding the pair. They were pictured sitting ringside during a boxing match in Las Vegas.
After a few years of dating, Nelly confirmed that they were officially back together.
In a September 2023 interview with Love & Hip Hop stars Rasheeda and Kirk Frost, Nelly admitted, “Yeah, we cool again. I think it surprised both of us though. It wasn’t anything that I don’t think was planned.”
This is the first child for Ashanti while Nelly is a father to two adult children - Chanelle, 30, and son Cornell Haynes III, 25. He shares his kids with ex-channetta Valentine.
He also adopted his late sister Jackie Donahue’s two children. She passed away in 2005 from leukemia.
