Billy Ray Cyrus revealed his unconventional engagement story to his Australian fiancée Firerose- two months after they sparked rumors as she was spotted with a diamond ring in September.

The 61-year-old singer, who had proposed to his 34-year-old girlfriend back in August, told People that he did not get down on one knee nor did he give her an engagement ring.

Firerose recalled their engagement, “Billy looked at me and said, ‘Do you, do you wanna marry me?' And I was just like, ‘Of course I do. I love you.’ He said, ‘I love you. I wanna make this official. I wanna be with you forever.”

Firerose, whose birthname is Johanna Rosie Hodges, then designed her own engagement ring, which has now been estimated by outside sources at around $220,000.

The Hannah Montana alum was married to manager and producer Leticia "Tish" Finley Cyrus, his wife of 28 years. She filed for divorce for the third time just four months prior.

Billy Ray Cyrus also confirmed that their divorce had been finalized, “It’s been a lot, but everyone knew that it was time for a change.”

Firerose also clarified that she was a “solid friend” and supported him during his separation from Tish. “Billy confided in me a lot of what was going on in his life. I was just the best friend I could possibly be, supporting him,” she said.

The bride to he also revealed that the Grammy winner was the one to ask Firerose if they could be more than friends following the split with his ex-wife.

"When we began sharing music, it just evolved more into, as musical soulmates, to soulmates, happy, pure love that to me, I didn’t know could exist. Again, we’re musicians, first and foremost, both of us. And we found this harmony, and this rhythm, this melody to life,” he added.

Cyrus shares three children with his 54-year-old ex-wife Leticia "Tish" Finley- Miley Ray Cyrus (born November 1992), Braison Chance Cyrus (born 1994), and Noah Lindsey Cyrus (born 2000). He also has a son named Christopher Cody (born April 1992) from his relationship with Kristin Luckey and had adopted two older children of Tish Finley- daughter Brandi (born 1987); and son Trace (born 1989).
